Why Your Hair Takes So Long to Dry—and How to Speed Up the Process

Hair drying time can be prolonged for various reasons, such as longer and thicker hair, which requires extra drying time. To speed up the process and minimize heat damage, consider these tips:

  1. Conditioner in the shower: Apply conditioner in the shower to prevent hair from absorbing too much water.
  2. Shake out and towel dry: Flip your head upside down after the shower, gently wring out your hair, then dry at least 50% before using a blow dryer.
  3. Prep with product: Before blow drying, use a quick blow dry product with "ionic" properties, which helps wick moisture away from the hair shaft.
  4. Air and/or towel dry: If you have time, wait until your hair is 70-80% dry before using a blow dryer.
  5. Detangle with a wide-tooth comb or wet brush.
  6. Use an ionic dryer: Ionic hair dryers cut drying time and reduce frizz.
  7. Minimize direct heat and distance: Use a blow dryer (preferably with a range of heat and speed settings) and focus the nozzle at a distance of 10-15 cm for 30 seconds at a time.
  8. Go big with a natural boar hair brush for thicker hair.
  9. Work in manageable sections and focus on roots.

For a more efficient dryer:

  • An 110,000 RPM brushless motor can blow at 22 m/s, potentially drying hair in half the time compared to traditional dryers.

Remember to employ these practices with caution to avoid long-term heat damage to your hair.
